Let's imagine that James Hetfield actually grew up in Canada instead of California. Imagine he was brought up by a working class lumberjack family and got about in denim and checkered flannel. This Canadian Hetfield's first real six -string wasn't a Gibson Flying V but rather a Strat. Finally, imagine that instead of meeting Lars Ulrich and Bob Rock on his way to super stardom he actually met Jim Vallance and Bob Clearmountain.
Got all that? Right, here's what it would have sounded like...

Mashopolos (pop mashups 2007-2009)
Wax Audio has released two mashup collections. Grab the zip files for the full albums, or click on the links to go to the individual album pages for individual track previews and downloads.
Mashopolos II - The Mashening is a comprehensive collection of Wax Audio's 2008 mash output, tweaked, re-jigged, sexed-up and optimized for maximum earhole penetration. The Mashening will take you kicking and screaming though an aural landscape of dirty electro, head banging metal, funk, blues, jazz, belly dance grooves, Indian drum'n'bass, film scores and good old fashioned toe-tappin rock'n'roll. Now then, dim the lights, pour yourself a drink, spark up a number, whip up a glass of Milo (or whatever it is that makes your sensory receptors all that more excitable), recline on your most comfortable sofa, place your most expensive headphones on your noggin and let The Mashening do the rest...
Mashopolos is a pop, hard-rock, metal, disco, movie-soundtrack, hindi-pop, bhangra type album put together using other people's music. Each pairing was achieved by loving cajoling and violent contortion of the source materials and was produced in Athens, Greece (hence the album title) throughout February and March 2007.

The Mashed Media Trilogy (political mashups 2004-2007)
Wax Audio has released a trilogy of politically themed EPs - WMD ...and other distractions (2004), Mediacracy (2005) and Cut, Paste and Run (2007). All are available for free download below. Grab the zip files for the full EP's or go to the download pages for track by track commentary and individual track downloads.
Wax Audio's debut on-line release WMD ...and other distractions is a 21-minute cut & paste audio montage offering a condensed, concise and transparent run-down of the most high-profile political manoeuvres broadcast over Australian air-waves during the first 3 years of this millennium. Toe-tappingly listenable and scathingly satirical, it reviews media coverage of the US led "War on Terror", the lead up to the un-precedented "pre-emptive" attack & corporate take-over of Iraq by the so-called "Coalition of the Willing" and the farcical (yet disturbingly effective) attempts by the Australian Government to demonize off-shore refugees seeking asylum in this country during the "Children Overboard" affair.

The belly of the Wax Audio hard drive has continued to digest the raw data of captured media, spewing forth its re-contextualized response without missing a beat. MEDIACRACY offers 7 new tracks, several thousand samples and as dense a mashing of news media as you've heard. The 25 minute aural assault brings together the bumbling contradictions of Alexander Downer, the harmonious mashing of Hollywood action movie trailers vs. US news war coverage, the expletive drenched tirades of Australia's favorite shock-jocks, the anthemic declamations of a prevailing war president and his sentimental recitation of the world's most beloved peace anthem.
This third and final installment of Wax Audio's Mashed Media EP trilogy, began with WMD ...and other distractions (2004) and continued with MEDIACRACY (2005). It features eight brand new politically charged tracks crammed with juicy sound bytes from a typically familiar and obscure selection of politicians, pundits, public citizens, rockers & rappers from Cronulla to Harlem, Tehran to Tel Aviv and Washington to Baghdad. Cut, Paste & Run brings you songs and sounds of love and hate, peace and war - and of course, bitter-sweet irony in the form of a special encore performance from Commander in Chief George W Bush as he passionately recites two more John Lennon classics!

Four years in the making, 9 Countries is a mashup / sound-collage / ambient / documentary album using nothing
but the archive of field recordings Tom made throughout 2005/06 whilst
on a 15 month overland journey through Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Burma, Tibet, India, Egypt and Greece. What you hear has been entirely assembled from these field recordings, no additional samples used.
Over the course of putting together the WMD ...and other distractions and MEDIACRACY EPs, I created alot of music which didn't quite fit the format, but was fun to put together and hey you never know, might even be of interest to someone else out there besides me.
These long, meandering, mainly instrumental tracks bring together a wide selection of various musical elements created by my friends and I over the last 15 years or so. Everything from aborted 24 track prog-rock epics, old rehearsal tapes and live youth-cafe gigs from a distant teenage era are mashed together here for your bemusement.

It's finally here - the first ever Iron Maiden mashup album THE NUMBER OF DA BOOTS. Featuring Wax Audio, Celebrity Murder Party, Copycat, DJ Lobsterdust, DJ Schmolli, The Illuminoids and Simon Iddol, all of whom have submitted their very own mashup tributes to one of heavy metal's finest. As well as bringing together several Maiden mashups already in circulation, The Number of Da Boots features no less than 7 brand new Maiden boots made exclusively for this release - including the epic 8 minute Maiden Goes to Hollywood by Wax Audio - which you can only hear on THE NUMBER OF DA BOOTS.
Proudly presented by 1086 Productions—
Gavin (The Reborn Identity), Tom (Wax Audio), Andy (Colatron), and Alan (Linus)
Eighteen tracks, most of them exclusive to the album, exploring and incorporating the films and sounds of David Lynch.
Wax Audio : Phil RetroSpector : The Who Boys : ToToM : RIAA : G3RSt : Voicedude : Neiltomo : Colatron : and The Reborn Identity. Plus special guest star Linus.
This is a seamless listening experience of uncommon quality available as either an 18 track album or as two long-playing sides.
These not-for-profit works (mashups, bootlegs, bastard-pop tracks etc) were created as non-substitutable, non-commercial derivatives of recognised recorded works. They do not compete with the market for the original material, nor do they undermine, defame or otherwise harm the original artists. Contrarily they promote each artist's commercial work by further validating their iconic status in popular culture.
And they're kinda funny...
